The Mercedes-Benz GLE400e 4Matic expands the GLE range with the introduction of a plug-in hybrid option that brings electrified efficiency into the brand’s premium SUV lineup. Positioned alongside the GLE450 4Matic and the high-performance Mercedes-AMG GLE63S 4Matic+, the GLE400e is designed to complement the existing models rather than replace them, offering customers a new balance of performance, refinement, and electrification. Exterior Design: A New Expression of Modern Luxury

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 2026 stands out as a premium midsize luxury SUV, combining commanding road presence with refined design and high-performance engineering. In Malaysia, the GLE 450 4MATIC AMG Line represents the top-tier offering, featuring a sporty, performance-inspired aesthetic. Its front fascia is dominated by a wide grille with the iconic three-pointed star, flanked by sleek LED headlamps with distinctive daytime running lights. From the side, the SUV exudes elegance and strength, riding on 21-inch AMG wheels and accented by chrome window surrounds, a subtle crease along the doors, foldable side steps, and satin silver roof rails. At the rear, angular LED tail lamps, a roof-mounted spoiler, chrome accents, and integrated dual exhaust outlets complete the look, giving the GLE 2026 a modern, sophisticated, and athletic presence that mirrors the styling cues of the brand’s flagship models.

Interior & Cabin: An Elevated Driving Environment

For the Malaysian market, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC features an all-black leather interior with anthracite open-pore oak wood trim, highlighted by satin silver accents on the steering wheel, air vents, and controls. The Nappa leather multifunction steering wheel sits in front of a fully digital cockpit with two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument display and infotainment system, framed by distinctive air vents. The cabin is well equipped with powered and heated front seats, memory function for the driver, a power-adjustable steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, Burmester surround sound system, and wireless charging.

The GLE 400e changes to a five-seat layout, as its battery pack replaces the third row and sits under the boot floor, reducing luggage space to 490 litres compared to 630 litres in the GLE 450. Like the GLE 450, it comes with the AMG Line interior, including Artico synthetic leather and Microcut microfibre upholstery, heated seats with memory, a Nappa leather steering wheel, and anthracite open-pore wood trim. Its MBUX system uses dual 12.3-inch displays, supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and includes MBUX Navigation Premium, MBUX Augmented Reality, and a 360-degree camera with Transparent Bonnet view.

Technology & Safety: Protecting Every Journey

For safety and driver assistance, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 400e is equipped with a comprehensive Driving Assistance Package that includes Active Distance Assist with extended automatic restart for motorway driving, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, an exit warning function, and Active Parking Assist. It also comes with the Guard 360 package, which adds an anti-theft alarm, interior monitoring, tow-away protection with visual and audible alerts, tyre pressure monitoring, an acoustic presence indicator, and a rear occupant seat belt status display in the driver’s instrument cluster. The GLE 400e is locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang, and is supported by a four-year unlimited mileage warranty, along with an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty.

Performance & Efficiency: Effortless Power, Intelligent Efficiency

In Malaysia, the GLE 400e plug-in hybrid uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, while the GLE 450 features a 3.0-litre inline-six, even as rivals like the BMW X5 offer six-cylinder engines in both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid forms with outputs of 381 PS/540 Nm and 489 PS/700 Nm. The GLE 400e 4MATIC combines a 252 PS, 400 Nm turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor producing 156 PS and 440 Nm, delivering a combined 381 PS and 650 Nm through a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission to all four wheels. This allows a 0–100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h. Although it matches the GLE 450 in power and exceeds it in torque (650 Nm vs 500 Nm), the extra weight of the hybrid system means the 2,685 kg GLE 400e is slower and less fast at the top end than the 2,310 kg GLE 450, which completes 0–100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and reaches 250 km/h.

Electric driving is supported by a 31 kWh battery that provides up to 114 km of WLTP range and can be charged at up to 11 kW AC, taking about 2.5 hours for a 10–100% charge, though DC fast charging is not available unlike some other local PHEVs such as the S580e. Externally, the GLE 400e comes with the AMG Line package, including AMG body styling, Multibeam LED headlamps with Adaptive High Beam Assist Plus, a panoramic sunroof, and illuminated running boards. It rides on 21-inch AMG five-spoke wheels with 275/45R21 front and 315/40R21 rear tyres, and features Airmatic air suspension with ADS+ adaptive damping as standard.
